Why social work? Social workers and therapists in general made such a positive impact on my life that becoming a social worker myself was a way to honor what they had done for me. I thought it would be the best way I could help and support individuals I would work with.
Where is your most recent field placement? My field placement for advance standing was at an inpatient unit at a local community hospital, Mount Sinai, South Nassau. I was really immersed in the whole inpatient environment. It was a very positive experience.
What made you choose your MSW program? I live here so it was close to me. I already knew the environment and structure of Adelphi University because I graduated with my bachelor's in social work there.
Who has been your favorite instructor? My favorite instructor was Sara Terrana, MSW, PhD. I met her during my BSW program but she became a mentor to me during graduate school.
What has been your favorite class? My favorite class as an MSW student was Research II with Roni Berger, LCSW, PhD. Previously research was so foreign to me. She helped break it down in a way where I could actually understand what I'm reading in papers. What am I looking for in these peer reviewed articles, and how to create my own evidence-informed practice.
What is your favorite place to study on campus? I wouldn’t study on campus but I would go to a local coffee shop.
What is the best thing about your academic program? My internship was what was the most rewarding.
What are you listening to today? Right now I’m listening to Brandi Carlile.
What are you reading right now? I’m currently reading Affirmative Counseling and Psychological Practice With Trans and Nonbinary Clients and Restoring Resilience: Discovering Your Clients' Capacity for Healing.
Where do you see yourself in three to five years? I'm hoping to have a private practice and eventually have a group practice that focuses on trauma.
Advice to applicants: I think you really have to talk to someone to get to that's like the first like window into what the what the program is like. If you have an understanding of how they approach, you know, school, and how they talk to the students, I think that's really the best way to assess, especially if it's an online program.
