Why social work? Social work is an essential profession that addresses a wide array of societal needs and challenges. The field encompasses various areas, including mental health, child welfare, and community organization, making it indispensable in promoting positive social change.

What made you choose your MSW program? I am deeply committed to exploring the experiences of marginalized communities, particularly at the intersections of poverty, classism, sexism, healthcare, and other systemic issues. My passion lies in understanding how these factors intertwine and impact individuals and groups, and I strive to contribute to meaningful discussions and solutions that promote equity and justice.

Who has been your favorite instructor? Dr. Amana Mbise. He creates a learning environment that is both safe and welcoming for students. His approach to teaching is thoughtfully designed to challenge and engage student learning effectively. By fostering an atmosphere of trust and support, Dr. Mbise enables students to explore their academic potential while feeling secure in their learning journey.

What has been your favorite class? SWK A643: Engaging Diversity through Justice and Anti-Oppressive Social Work Practice

What is your favorite place to study on campus? My preferred location for academic pursuits is the university library, primarily due to its serene atmosphere, which fosters concentration and enhances my study experience. The library's tranquil environment allows me to immerse myself in my coursework without the distractions often found in other settings.

What is the best thing about your academic program? One of the most commendable aspects of my academic program is the caliber of the professors. Their expertise and dedication significantly enhance the learning experience. Additionally, I value my opportunities to engage in meaningful communication and collaboration with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This interaction not only enriches my education but also broadens my perspective on various cultural and social issues.

Where do you see yourself in three to five years? What are your goals? My aspiration is to become a school social worker, with a focus on serving as a vital resource for marginalized communities. I aim to provide support and guidance to students and families who face various challenges, advocating for their needs and fostering an inclusive environment. By leveraging my skills and knowledge, I intend to empower these communities, ensuring that every child has access to the resources and opportunities necessary for their academic and personal development.
