Youth Organizing Director (Augusta, Maine)
The Maine Recovery Access Project and the Maine Recovery Action Project are hiring a full-time Youth Organizing Director.
Responsibilities include:
• Support the leadership and sustainability of three regional Youth Caucuses (Kennebec, Washington, and Pennobscot County) through regular meetings, 1:1s, and group facilitation, including supervision of part time youth allies and 23 young organizers.
• Mentor youth leaders in campaign strategy, organizing skills, and systems navigation
• Coordinate statewide retreats and cross-caucus convening that build connection and collective strategy
• Support youth in developing and leading naloxone education, including curriculum design, train-the-trainer programs, and statewide distribution efforts
• Partner with youth and allies on creative civic engagement projects, including video development and digital storytelling
The ideal candidate will:
• Have 2-5 years experience organizing with directly impacted communities, especially young people ages 12–18 and those who’ve lived through systems like recovery, foster care, criminal legal, or public health (paid or unpaid)
• Bring a trauma-informed, harm reduction, and justice lens to everything you do
• Know how to balance leadership and humility—holding space, not taking space
