Certified Peer Specialist (NYC)

Fountain House is hiring a full-time Certified Peer Specialist.

Responsibilities:

• Support residents applications and appointments to gain and utilize social services and benefits as needed, including but not limited to social security, HRA, SNAP, Social Care Network, Housing Applications etc.  

• Escort clients to appointments as needed (i.e. medical, psychiatric, Social Security Administration, Public Assistance, and Emergency Room, etc.) 

• Help residents develop skills for maintaining their housing, such as budgeting, meal planning, and household management.  

• Aid with resident move-ins and move-outs

• Support Social Care Network surveys and resource connections 

• Strategically use their own lived experience to inspire and engage residents in their recovery 

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred. 

• NYS Peer Certification (Provisional or Full Certification), OR NY Certified Peer Recovery Advocate (NYCRPA)   Certification as well as maintaining this certification which is necessary to maintain active job status. 

• Lived experience required: personal experience living with a disability, history of mental health challenge and/or substance abuse and willingness to draw upon this experience to serve as a role model to support the recovery goals of individuals served. 

• 1+ year professional experience in the field preferred  

• Must be able to travel within the 5 boroughs using public transportation.  

• Must be able to climb stairs.

• Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 

• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
